Carpathian Mountains are very beautiful in every season of the year. In winter people come here for skiing and riding snowboards and in summer for tourism and hiking. Carpathian Mountains are located in the Western Ukraine and take over 4% of the territory of Ukraine. Four administrative districts are located on the territory of Carpathians: Zakarpattya region, Lviv region, Ivano-Frankivsk and a part of Chernivtsi region. The highest top of the Carpathians is the mountain Goverla with a high of 2061 m. The rivers Dniester and Prut start to flow from the Carpathian Mountains.
Traveling in the central part of Ukraine you pass beautiful highlands of Podillya and near Ivano-Frankivsk city at the horizon you will see the first chains of Carpathian Mountains which are called Pre-Carpathians. The traveler sees here wonderful picturesque views in any season of the year. Beautiful green mountains are covered with the carpets of colorful flowers or great winter mountains are covered with the snow which glitters at the sunshine. Each time you come here, you’re amazed with the combination of fairy-tale and mystery.
Nature of Carpathian mountains
The nature of Carpathians is extremely picturesque. The mountains attach the special color to it. The mountain conditions are suitable for tourism and health resorts.
The Pre-Carpathian upland is rich in unique monuments of nature. Here are many rocks and caves. There are the salt deposits, mineral wax (ozokerit), there are mineral sources.
The Outer Carpathians (Beskids and Outer Gorgans) stretch to the south of Pre-Carpathian upland. Forests are rich in fruit trees and berries.
The Central (Verkhovinskie) Carpathians are characterized with lowlands. Here are the convenient passes.
Poloninskie Carpathians are the highest part of the territory – the pearl of these mountains.
The peaks of Volcanic Carpathians are the craters of extinct volcanoes. The rocky peaks decorated with mountain streams, mountain lakes, deep forests, vine plantations – all this makes the Volcanic Carpathians especially picturesque. The Trans-Carpathian lowland is mostly suitable for agriculture. In Carpathians one can see also many interesting things, for example the mountain pine, which growths on the mountain Pop Ivan on the altitude of more than 2000 m; or European larch not far from Rakhiv, the height of which is 54 m. In spring one can visit the narcissus valley.
The best known winter resorts of Carpathians are Slavske, Bukovel, Yaremche, Drahobrat, Yablunytsya, Kosiv. These resorts have the well developed infrastructure: comfortable hotels, cosy one or two-stored private apartments, numerous restaurants and cafes. You can easily book a room in a hotel beforehand or stay rent private apartments which are much cheaper.
Natural beauty of Carpathians is filled with its sights. A lot of old castles are located here: Shenbourne castle, Palanok castle in Mukachevo, Uzhgorod castle, castle in the village Pidhirtsi and many others. Carpathian Mountains can be called the best place for green tourism in Ukraine.
There are a lot of legends and mysterious stories about the life in Carpathian Mountains. Many poems and short stories are devoted to the beauty of Carpathian Mountains. Ivan Franko, Lesya Ukrainka, Olga Kobylanska and many other Ukrainian writers described nature of the Carpathian Mountains and traditions of people living there.
Ukrainian Carpathians are well known as the great recreational area. The air in Carpathian Mountains is very clear and the climate conditions are good for lungs and heart. There are also a lot of thermal and mineral sources. To have a wonderful rest, tourists can stay in one of numerous sanatoriums or rent a private apartment.
Motley landscape, relief, climate create the wonderful conditions for the rest. The variety of the weather in different seasons and in different parts of Carpathian area creates the favourable premises for the development of different kinds of tourism.
